Animals go to Heaven

I wanted to be a veteraniarian growing up
had ferrets, chinchillas, birds and turtles
and hamsters and cats and dogs and rabbits
but the animal i felt closest to was my yellow canary

i named him Tweety
and he used to sing to me all the time
he got sick
and i was so sad
i gave him antibiotics
but it wasn’t enough
he died

but i didn’t kill him
unlike my turtles
who when i was 7
i asked my mom if i should use hot or cold water
to clean their bowl
and she said hot
and so i accidentally boiled my turtles
and i was devastated

unlike the time my ferret farrah had babies
and i walked into the room too many times
and didn’t realize she’d eat her young if i did that
and the only thing left of her babies
was one ferret head that i flushed down the toilet
and i was devastated

and unlike my other bird
who i left outside to get some fresh air
and when i came back
the neighbor’s cat had eaten him

so back to my beloved canary tweety
i had taken him to my room with me at night
so that he could be near me through the night
i remember waking up that morning
with the flu
i was so sick i couldn’t even lift my head up off the pillow
and there was tweety
dead on the floor of his cage
and i cried
i was miserable

i couldn’t even get up to bury him
because I was so sick with the flu
and i looked up to God
in anger
because Christians had told me
that animals don’t have spirits
so they weren’t going to Heaven

my bird was my friend
he looked at me in the eyes
and i looked at him in the eyes
and now i’ll never see him again?!!
and i told God that He was cold
and His world wasn’t perfect
that He was mean and insensitive

and i heard the Spirit say to me
open your Bible to Ecclesiastes 3
my Bible
laying next to me from studying the night before
was the only thing i could reach
without lifting my sick and sad head to get out of bed
and so i thought to myself
what the Hell
why not
and I reached for my Bible
and weakly opened it to to Ecclesiastes 3
and there it read:

A Time for Everything

1 There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:

2 a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,

and I knew the Lord was talking to me. and as i read further, it says this:

18 I also thought, “As for men, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Man’s fate is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; man has no advantage over the animal. Everything is meaningless. 20 All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. 21 Who knows if the spirit of man rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

God came to me to show me that what Christians had told me 20 years earlier was wrong. I felt so much better. I had a funeral for my canary, and the next day I was thinking about the above scripture where it says that animals have a spirit. I remembered hearing that spirits are eternal, and so I asked God to show me where in the Bible it says that spirits are eternal, and I heard the Spirit say: 1 Corinthians 15.

Feeling lucky like I already won the lottery, I thought well what the Hell, let me just go and see what 1 Corinthians 15 says. Again I was amazed, for that chapter is on the resurrection of the dead, and it says this:

The Resurrection Body

35But someone may ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39All flesh is not the same: Men have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.

42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.
And there you go, God not only tells us in His word that animals go to Heaven, but He’ll come down from Heaven and tell you so, too!!

There’s also a scripture in Genesis that says God will demand an accounting from animals:

Genesis 9:4-6
4 “But you must not eat meat that has its lifeblood still in it. 5 And for your lifeblood I will surely demand an accounting. I will demand an accounting from every animal. And from each man, too, I will demand an accounting for the life of his fellow man.

So smile, because if you’ve ever had a broken heart from having an animal pass over that you loved, rest assured you will see them again … God said so.

And I had another bird
I found in washington, dc in the city
he was a baby
and fell out of a tree
and i brought him home
let him walk around my kitchen all the time
and when he was hungry
he’d hop to the refrigerator
and i’d give him food
his name was baby

one day i knew I had to teach baby how to fly
like as if lol
but so i took him outside
and he flew way up high into a tree
and that night he didn’t come down
i was so worried

the next day i was suntanning in my front yard
and baby came down from the tree
and landed on my foot
and from there on
baby and I kept our outdoor relationship
baby lived and slept outside
but whenever I called baby
shouting into the neighborhood
baby would come to me
and land on my shoulder
and everybody thought it was amazing
and it was

one day baby didn’t come anymore
and I didn’t know if he got eaten by a cat
or if he just migrated south for the winter
but i know one day I’ll see baby again
and that’s the truth
